US Deportees Denied Due Process, Says Leading Venezuelan Lawmaker

Jorge Rodrigues stated that men have not been reported to commit any offenses; however, the U.S. claims they are part of a Venezuelan gang associated with abductions and murders.

The president of Venezuela’s National Assembly, Jorge Rodriguez, stated on Monday that Venezuelans who were deported from the United States over the weekend to El Salvador had their due process rights violated.

At a press conference, Rodriguez stated that those who were deported had not been found guilty of committing any offenses in the United States.

The Trump administration states that those being deported are members of the Tren de Aragua, a Venezuelan gang allegedly involved in kidnappings, extortion, and hit jobs.

Despite a court injunction prohibiting such actions, the Trump administration utilized the AlienEnemiesAct’s emergency authorities to swiftly expel over 200 suspected members of a Venezuelan gang from the United States during the weekend.

Rodriguez additionally mentioned that he plans to request the Venezuelan government under President Nicolas Maduro’s leadership to issue an advisory against travel for citizens of Venezuela.

He stated it wasn’t a secure location and encouraged those Venezuelan migrants to come back home.

He stated, ‘We will undertake every necessary action to ensure our fellow citizens come back home, and we will dispatch all available aircraft to every corner of the globe.’

Out of over 600 migrants who have been sent back to Venezuela from the U.S. and Mexico via deportation flights since February, only 16 individuals faced some kind of legal proceedings, according to Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello on state TV. None of these deportees were part of the Tren de Aragua gang.

The administration led by Maduro has frequently faced accusations from political adversaries regarding the arbitrary arrest and detention of dissenters.
