Marjorie Taylor Greene Slams “Generic Republicans” in 2026 Senate Run Announcement
MAGA figure Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene from Georgia has recently announced her choice regarding whether she will contest the upcoming Republican primary for the U.S. Senate seat in her state. In doing so, she also subtly criticized some of her fellow Republicans.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution published on Friday
Greene stated that she would not be running for U.S. Senate during the 2026 midterm elections.
In an extensive message posted on her Twitter account,
The extreme-right provocateur cited a report in which
Republican Georgia Governor Brian Kemp
— who has also stated he won’t contest next year — was meeting with Republican contributors at a private retreat to determine whom they should rally behind for the upcoming GOP primary. She further reinforced her claim that President Donald Trump did not lose the 2020 election.
As we all understand from experience,” Greene stated, “a lot of participants at these exclusive gatherings despise Trump, support [Florida Governor Ron] DeSantis instead, view MAGA unfavorably, and did nothing as our elections were undermined in 2020. Currently, their aim is to find an individual who will superficially embrace MAGA terminology merely to fool the base into believing he’s part of them—one who would not question the established GOP structure nor disturb the prevailing order which continues to let citizens down repeatedly.
Green portrayed both herself and Trump as genuine conservatives connected to the public, contrasting them with wealthy elites who were more focused on fundraising than enacting change. She also criticized her own party while telling Senator Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.) that she would not campaign against him the following year.
Cease sending me fundraising emails and campaign advertisements portraying me as your rival. I am not contesting this election,” Greene stated. “Perhaps you should seek funds from another typical Republican candidate; however, I anticipate your contributions might decrease. Best wishes.
The announcement from the Congresswoman representing Georgia follows reports suggesting that Kemp was
planning to have a meeting with Trump
“In the upcoming weeks,” they plan to carefully consider possible candidates to support in what is expected to be one of the most fiercely contested Senate races next year. Potential nominees might include Representative Mike Collins (R-Ga.) and former Senator Kelly Loeffler (R-Ga.), who was defeated in her bid for reelection by Senator Raphael Warnock (D-Ga) on January 5, 2021.
