Delta Governor Honors the ‘Torch of Unity’ as National Sports Festival Kicks Off
On Tuesday in Asaba, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State welcomed the Torch of Unity from the National Sports Commission. This gesture was made in preparation for the upcoming 22nd National Sports Festival planned to take place in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
In the presence of his deputy, Sir Monday Onyema, the governor highlighted the significance of harmony and cohesion, emphasizing that sporting events have consistently served as a binding force within Nigeria.
Oborevwori encouraged the Delta State athletes, who are the reigning champions, to meticulously prepare for the competition and embrace the essence of excellence as they gear up for the upcoming event in Abeokuta.
The governor stated, “To our young athletes and the whole sports fraternity inDelta State, being the reigning champions, I urge you to maintain the ethos of excellence and discipline.”
“You are the pride of our state and the future of our great nation.
Deltа Stаte hаs іnсоnsіstеntlу kееp tо thе fоrwорd оf spοrtіng еxсеllеncе nІgеrіа.”
Please let me know if you would like further adjustments! However, I noticed all my attempts resulted quite similar due to maintaining key terms such as “Delta State,” “forefront,” “sporting excellence,” and “Nigeria”. Here’s another attempt with more variation:
“The state of Delta persistently stands out for athletic prowess within Nigeria.
We take great pride in our heritage, successfully organizing and emerging victorious at the 2022 National Sports Festival. We have also cultivated many exceptional athletes who consistently bring honor to both our nation and the world stage.
Let this instant similarly act as a strong reminder that, regardless of our varied cultures and origins, we are bonded by the Nigerian spirit: more resilient collectively and motivated by shared dreams and ambitions.
I applaud the National Sports Commission and Ogun State, which is hosting the 22nd National Sports Festival, for maintaining this admirable custom and for their ongoing efforts to foster national unity and athletic prowess.
The governor emphasized, ‘As we accept this torch today, let it kindle within us a fresh wave of hope, enthusiasm, and patriotic spirit.’
Previously, the Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Mr. Onoriode Oborevwori, delivered a welcoming speech where he praised the state government for significantly supporting sports development within the region. He emphasized that the torch symbolizes peace, unity, and the genuine essence of sportsmanship.
The head of the National Sports Commission delegation, Mrs. Ikana Mbora, stated that on March 25, 2025, in Abuja, President Bola Tinubu launched the National Sports Festival by urging the NSC to carry the message of unity across all 36 states and Abuja.
The NSC team has traveled extensively across almost every state in the federation, covering regions such as the North-East, North-Central, North-West, and South-East. They mentioned that they were presently in the South-South region after visiting Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Bayelsa states; their most recent stop being Delta State on Tuesday.
