Extended Deadline for WHT Tax Refunds: Act Now!

Sri Lanka, May 9 — The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) has extended the submission deadline for senior citizens applying for quarterly income tax refunds for the assessment year 2023/2024.

After carefully considering the substantial number of requests submitted by elderly taxpayers, the department has reached this conclusion. The deadline has consequently been pushed back to June 30, 2025.

The IRD has stated that senior citizens can receive help and file for refunds each Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at their corresponding local branches. In cases where Wednesdays fall on a public holiday, services will instead be provided on the subsequent Thursday. It is recommended that visitors get there before 4:15 p.m. to allow sufficient time for processing.
