
Students Press for Clarity on NELFUND Expenditures

— The chapter of Nigerian university students in Osun State has urged the leadership of higher educational institutions to provide detailed accounts regarding the distribution and use of funds from the National Educational Loan Fund (NELFUND).
Through its spokesperson, Adeleke Samson, the association appealed to the vice chancellors and provosts of higher education institutions in Osun State to furnish stakeholders with comprehensive details regarding the allocation and expenditure of funds for increased transparency and accountability.
At a press briefing held at the Osun State Correspondents’ Chapel, Samson stressed that transparency and accountability are essential for the proper administration of these funds.
He stated that students should get the benefits they deserve, and that those in leadership positions at institutions bear the responsibility of ensuring these resources are used correctly.
” Transparency and accountability are crucial in handling these funds, and we guarantee that students will get the benefits they deserve,” Samson declared.
He additionally called upon all Vice-Chancellors and Provosts to promptly act to tackle the problem, underlining the importance of transparency regarding fund utilization and their effect on students.
“We need clarity on how these resources are being used and their effect on our students. Transparency and accountability are crucial for fostering trust and assurance in the handling of NELFUND allocations,” he noted.
He further emphasized NAUS’s dedication to working alongside the state government to enhance the quality of the student community.

He emphasised that a strong and effective NAUS is essential for advocating student rights and welfare, and that the administration would prioritise student engagement, inclusivity and transparency.

He admitted and affirmed Comrade Olushola Ladoja as the genuine President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).
He praised Comrade Ladoja’s guidance in bolstering student interests and assured NAUS of their backing for his efforts focused on enhancing student welfare and rights throughout the nation.
“We take this opportunity to acknowledge and recognise Comrade Olushola Ladoja as the authentic President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS). He emphasized NAUS’s dedication to collaborating closely with NANS to tackle the issues confronting students and to pinpoint avenues for expansion and improvement, striving to create a more robust and thriving student body within Osun State.
Regarding the problem of clandestine sect activities within educational institutions, he urged the administrations of different universities to develop preemptive measures to tackle this issue. He also affirmed that his administration is actively working to resolve this matter.
He emphasized that reducing crime and delinquency within any community, particularly in educational institutions, should be a shared duty.
