ADB Official Urges Agri Students to Drive the Future of Farming
Edward Ato Sarpong, the Managing Director of Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) PLC, has urged students studying agriculture to adopt entrepreneurship and innovation as vital instruments for reshaping Ghana’s agricultural business sector.
As part of this year’s Agricultural Students’ Career Guidance and Mentorship Dialogue (AG-STUD) Boot Camp, he initiated the call.
The bootcamp, organized by the Agrihouse Foundation with sponsorship from ADB, gathers students from different agricultural institutions across the country to link up with industry experts and nurture their business development skills.
As part of the week-long event, both the students and organizers made a courtesy visit to the administration of ADB.
During his speech, Ato Sarpong encouraged the students to change their perspective from conventional, small-scale farming to agripreneurship—a contemporary method that incorporates innovation, technology, value enhancement, and sustainability within the agricultural sector.
“You aren’t merely agriculture students; you are the future leaders of Ghana’s agricultural value chain. The importance of your contribution to developing a robust and contemporary agribusiness sector can’t be overstated,” he emphasized.
Ato Sarpong highlighted the essential requirement for young people-driven initiatives to revolutionize sectors such as agriculture and entrepreneurship. He encouraged attendees to leverage resources like AG-STUD to enhance their abilities, connect with experienced guides, and formulate scalable ventures aimed at generating jobs and fostering economic growth.
The Managing Director of ADB reiterated the institution’s dedication to supporting young people via specialized funding, skill development programs, and internships, emphasizing that AG-STUD plays a crucial role in connecting theoretical knowledge with real-world experience.
“Besides introducing the Student Save Account, the bank plans to implement new financing initiatives aimed at making it simpler for agriculture students and youthful business owners within the agricultural supply chain and various critical economic sectors to obtain capital,” he revealed.
Kwame Asiedu Attrams, who leads Agribusiness at the ADB, mentioned that the organization takes pride in continuing their sponsorship of the AG-STUD Boot Camp. This initiative underscores the bank’s dedication to supporting a fresh cohort of business starters focused on agriculture with an aim to generate prosperity and boost economic advancement.
The Executive Director of Agrihouse Foundation, Alberta Akorsa, expressed gratitude towards ADB for their ongoing support of AG-STUD programs, as well as their contributions to agricultural education and entrepreneurship in Ghana.
The Agricultural Science Student Training Boot Camp this year, concluding on May 9, 2025, has welcomed 125 participants chosen through a competitive process from among 23 institutions nationwide. These participating entities include universities and various post-secondary agricultural schools throughout the nation.
