
Akron RubberDucks Shut Out: Sea Dogs’ David Sandlin and Relievers Combine for No-Hitter
June 22: Sea Dogs’ David Sandlin, 2 relievers no-hit RubberDucks in first-half finale
In the first-half finale at Portland, Sea Dogs right-hander David Sandlin struck out nine and combined with two relievers to no-hit the RubberDucks 10-0.
The Sea Dogs won the last three games to split the six-game series.
Sandlin came within a pitch of an immaculate first inning before striking out the side on 11 pitches.
In the bottom of the inning, the Sea Dogs sent nine batters to the plate and got to Ducks starter Dylan DeLucia (2-1) for four runs. DeLucia then allowed three more runs in the third inning as Portland built a 7-0 lead. He gave up a career-high seven runs — six earned — in three innings.
June 21: Ducks eliminated from first-half race with loss
RubberDucks first baseman Jorge Burgos hit his team-high 10th home run, but the Portland Sea Dogs held on for a 5-4 victory in the fifth game of a six-game series at Delta Dental Park.
With the Erie SeaWolves (45-23) beating Chesapeake to secure the Southwest Division first half, the Ducks were eliminated from a tight two-team race in which Erie and Akron were within 2.5 games of each other and first place for the entire half.
With the Ducks trailing 5-0 with two outs in the sixth inning, Dayan Frías walked and left fielder Joe Lampe doubled and Burgos then drilled an estimated 448-foot homer to cut the deficit to 5-3. In the eighth, Kahlil Watson hit a triple, and an errant relay throw by shortstop Marvin Alcantara into the Sea Dogs dugout allowed Watson to score to make it 5-4. But Lampe was stranded after a two-out single, and Akron went in order in the ninth inning.
June 20: RubberDucks’ 6-game win streak ends with 8-2 loss
RubberDucks left fielder Guy Lipscomb homered for a second consecutive game, but the Portland Sea Dogs hit home runs in each of the first two innings to build a 5-1 lead en route to an 8-2 win in the fourth game of a six-game series in Portland.
The loss snapped Akron’s season-best six-game winning streak.
Ducks starter Tommy Mace (7-3) allowed seven earned runs but worked through five innings for the 11th time in 13 starts this season.
June 19: Ducks blast 3 home runs, hold off late rally to beat Sea Dogs 7-6
The visiting RubberDucks hit three home runs and withstood a late rally to beat the Portland Sea Dogs 7-6 for their sixth consecutive win.
Dayan Frías (first inning), Cameron Barstad (fourth) and Guy Lipscomb (ninth) each homered and starter Rodney Boone matched his season high with eight strikeouts for the Ducks. Lipscomb’s blast proved to be the winning run when the Sea Dogs scored three times in the ninth before Davis Sharpe struck out Ronald Rosario for the final out with the tying run on second base.
Boone (5-3) allowed a leadoff single in the first inning and a two-out triple in the third but kept Portland scoreless through the first five innings.
June 18: RubberDucks beat Sea Dogs for fifth consecutive win
RubberDucks starter Trent Denholm held Portland hitless until the sixth inning, and designated hitter Kahlil Watson had his first career multi-homer game to lead a 6-3 win over the Sea Dogs in the second game of a six-game series at Delta Dental Park.
The win was the fifth in a row, matching a season best, for the Ducks and kept them a half-game behind Erie in the Southwest Division first-half race with four games remaining.
Denholm (7-2) retired 17 of the first 18 Sea Dogs, with only an error allowing a batter to reach base. He struck out five batters without a walk. Left fielder Zach Ehrhard ended the no-hit bud with a two-out single in the sixth inning, but Denholm picked him off first base to end the inning.
It was Denholm’s second consecutive start of six scoreless inning and extended a scoreless innings streak to 16. He also tied for the team and Eastern League lead in wins. Zach Jacobs earned his third save with a scoreless ninth inning.
Watson, who finished with three hits and three RBIs, led off the fourth with a 393-foot home run to the Ducks bullpen for the game’s first run. He also had the game’s second hit — a home run in the sixth inning to make it 2-0.
Cooper Ingle, Watson and Dayan Frías each had RBI singles in the seventh to make it 5-0, and Angel Genao had an RBI single for an insurance run in the ninth.
June 17: 4 Ducks pitchers combine for 1-hitter in 1-0 win over SeaDogs
Dylan DeLucia struck out eight in five hitless innings and combined with three relievers on a one-hitter in the RubberDucks’ 1-0 win over the SeaDogs in Portland, Maine.
The RubberDucks scored the only run they needed on Angel Genao’s double in the fifth inning for their fourth consecutive victory. Alex Mooney scored on the hit by Genao, who has 10 hits, three doubles and five RBIs on the Ducks’ two-series road trip.
DeLucia (2-0) set down the first 11 batters, including seven by strikeout. He allowed two two-out walks in the fourth inning before retiring the next five batters. His eight strikeouts matched his season high, and he has not allowed a run in 11 innings in his first two games with the RubberDucks.
Reliever Jack Leftwich struck out all three batters in the sixth inning, Steven Pérez pitched two innings, allowing the only SeaDogs hit — a two-out single by Ronald Rosario in the seventh. Right-hander Zane Morehouse struck out one batter in a perfect ninth inning for his sixth save.
June 15: Ducks continue to win via the long ball
Angel Genao hit his first Double-A home run in his first three-hit game for the RubberDucks and added an eighth-inning go-ahead RBI single as the RubberDucks rallied for a 5-4 victory and a series win over the Hartford Yard Goats in the finale at Dunkin’ Park.
The Ducks moved within one game of Erie in the Southwest Division first-half race with six games remaining.
With the Ducks trailing 4-2 in the eighth inning, Guy Lipscomb drew a one-out walk before Cameron Barstad hit the first pitch he saw to the upper deck in right field for his second home run of the season to tie the score. Michael Turconi then doubled, Cooper Ingle walked and Genao lined a single to center field to score Turconi and give the Ducks a 5-4 lead.
Right-hander Zach Jacobs made his first start of the season after 16 relief appearances. He allowed a leadoff walk in the first inning, and his 13-inning scoreless streak ended with a second-inning solo home run by the Yard Goats’ Bryant Betancourt — his third home run of the series.
Reliever Jake Miller got the last two outs of the seventh to extend his scoreless streak to 13⅔ innings over eight games. Right-hander Davis Sharpe allowed two hits but no runs in two innings for his fourth save.
June 14: Joe Lampe, Jorge Burgos homer to help Mace win his seventh start
Joe Lampe and Jorge Burgos hit back-to-back home runs in the first inning in the RubberDucks 7-1 win over the host Hartford Yard Goats on Saturday night. The Ducks also go a season-high four hits off the bat of Guy Lipscomb and Akron starter Tommy Mace (7-2) threw five innings to win his sixth consecutive game.
Neither team had scored in the first three innings of the first four games of the six game series, but Akron finally did on Saturday. Shortstop Angel Genao hit a one-out single against right-hander Blake Adams, who walked third baseman Dayan Frías. Lampe hit the first pitch from Adams to the second deck in right field for his fourth home run, giving him eight RBIs in the series and Akron a 3-0 lead. Burgos followed with his team-high ninth home run to right field to make it 4-0.
Mace allowed a run on two hits and a walk in the first inning but only allowed one hit in the rest of his five-inning start – the 10th time in 12 starts he has worked at least five innings. He struck out five batters and walked four, leaving with a 6-1 lead. Jack Leftwich made his first appearance off the Injured List and pitched two scoreless innings, allowing only two hits. Shawn Rapp followed and struck out three batters around a hit batter in a scoreless eighth inning. Tyler Thornton then came on in the the ninth inning and allowed a single, error and walk to load the bases before finishing a scoreless inning.
June 13: Ducks starting pitching continues to dominate in 5-0 win at Hartford
Starter Rodney Boone pitched six scoreless innings, Cooper Ingle and Guy Lipscomb each hit a home run and the RubberDucks beat the Hartford Yard Goats 5-0.
The Ducks were hitless the first time through the order against Hartford left-hander Sean Sullivan, but Ingle led off the fourth inning with a solo home run — his seventh of the season — for a 1-0 lead.
Boone (4-3) matched his longest outing of the season and didn’t allow an earned run for the eighth time in 12 starts. He struck out three and only allowed doubles in the first and fourth innings and a single in the sixth. Center fielder Kahlil Watson made a sliding catch to end the sixth inning and preserve the shutout.
Davis Sharpe struck out two in a perfect seventh inning, Zach Jacobs pitched a perfect eighth and Jake Miller worked around a two-out double in a scoreless ninth inning.
June 12: Late homers propel Yard Goats to 4-2 win over RubberDucks
Trent Denholm pitched six scoreless innings and left fielder Joe Lampe hit a two-run double, but the Hartford Yard Goats hit two eighth-inning home runs in a 4-2 win over the RubberDucks at Dunkin’ Park.
The loss kept the Ducks 2½ games behind Erie in the Southwest Division first-half race with nine games remaining.
Braiden Ward hit a one-out solo home run off Ducks reliever Tyler Thornton to pull the Yard Goats to within 2-1. After Kyle Karros reached on catcher’s interference, Thornton walked shortstop Jose Torres and Bryant Betancourt followed with a three-run home run on an 0-2 pitch for the game-winner.
June 11: DeLucia shines in Ducks mound debut
Dylan DeLucia pitched six scoreless innings in his Double-A debut and the RubberDucks scored four runs in the seventh inning for a 6-2 win over the Hartford Yard Goats.
The victory snapped the Ducks’ three-game losing streak and kept them 2½ games behind Erie in the Eastern League’s Southwest Division.
With the Ducks leading 1-0 in the seventh inning, Angel Genao hit a one-out single to center field and took second base on a wild pitch. Kahlil Watson walked, and an errant pickoff throw advanced both runners. Dayan Frías walked and, with two outs, Joe Lampe grounded a three-run triple down the right-field line to make it 4-0. Jake Fox then added an RBI double to make it 5-0.
DeLucia (1-0) worked around a two-out double in the first inning and a one-out single in the third. He retired the final 11 batters he faced and struck out five without a walk.
Ross Carver came on and pitched a perfect seventh before allowing three hits, including a two-run home run, in the eighth inning. Zach Jacobs then struck out two in a perfect ninth inning. He has 11 consecutive scoreless innings over his last five outings, allowing only one hit and four walks with 14 strikeouts.
June 10: Hartford beat RubberDucks in a walk-off
Bryant Betancourt hit a walk-off, two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Hartford Yard Goats a series-opening 3-1 win over the visiting RubberDucks, who lost three consecutive games for the first time this season.
After Zane Morehouse retired the first two batters of the ninth inning, Hartford’s Nic Kent was awarded first base on catcher’s interference and, on the next pitch, Betancourt launched his fifth homer of the season.
The Ducks tied the score in the seventh inning when Alex Mooney singled to left field, went to second base on an errant pickoff throw advanced to third on Cooper Ingle’s single and scored on Angel Genao’s ground ball to second base. The rally ended when Kahlil Watson struck out and Ingle was caught in a rundown between third base and home plate.
June 8: RubberDucks game with Baysox rained out
The series finale between the RubberDucks and the Chesapeake Baysox at Canal Park was cancelled because of rain.
Ducks starter Tommy Mace had pitched three scoreless innings, allowing one hit with one strikeout, before the game was delayed in the bottom of the third and eventually cancelled. It will not be made up because the teams will not play again in first half of the regular season.
Any fan with a ticket to the game may exchange it for a reserved ticket at any future game, based on availability, during the 2025 regular season.
After a day off Monday, the Ducks (36-20) will begin a two-week road trip to Hartford and Portland.
June 7: Baysox hold on to beat RubberDucks 4-2
Baysox closer Keagan Gillies struck out Guy Lipscomb swinging with a runner on first to end the game and preserve a 4-2 win over the RubberDucks at Canal Park.
The Baysox, who scored two runs each in the third and sixth innings, held the Ducks to just three hits for the second consecutive game. Lipscomb had one of those hits, a home run in the fourth inning to break up a no-hitter by Baysox starter Trey Gibson (2-2).
The Ducks trailed 4-1 heading into the bottom of the ninth before Jorge Burgos singled with two outs, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Joe Lampe.
Rodney Boone (3-3) started and took the hard-luck loss for the Ducks. He allowed two runs, both unearned, on two hits and two walks with four strikeouts in five innings. Davis Sharpe relieved and allowed two runs on three hits in two innings.
June 6: RubberDucks manage just 3 hits in shutout loss to Baysox at Canal Park
Three Chesapeake Baysox pitchers combined on a three-hitter in a 2-0 win over the RubberDucks at Canal Park.
The Baysox won despite having only two hits off Ducks pitching, scoring the only runs of the game in the second inning. Anthony Servideo drove in the first run with a triple to right and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Noelberth Romero.
Ducks starter Trenton Denholm quickly settled in after that to retire nine of the next 10 batters. He finished allowing two runs while striking out three in six innings. Guardians reliever Erik Sabrowski tossed a scoreless seventh with two strikeouts in a rehab appearance, and Tyler Thornton and Magnus Ellerts each worked a scoreless inning.
Kahlil Watson had two of the Ducks’ three hits.
Baysox starter Nestor German (2-2), the Baltimore Orioles’ No. 11 prospect, matched his career-high with 5⅔ innings pitched and allowed just one hit and one walk with four strikeouts. He set down the first 11 Ducks he faced and was one out away from his first career quality start.
June 5: Aaron Peterson, bullpen lead Ducks to 4-1 win over Baysox
RubberDucks starting pitcher Austin Peterson allowed just one run and struck out seven in six innings in a 4-1 win over the visiting Chesapeake Baysox at Canal Park. Peterson (4-2) did not allow a hit until there were two outs in the fourth inning.
Jake Miller followed Peterson with two scoreless innings while striking out five. Zach Jacobs picked up his second save with a scoreless ninth inning, striking out one.
In his starts at Canal Park, Peterson has allowed just three runs (two earned) and has struck out 26 in 30 innings. Miller extended his scoreless innings streak to 9⅔ innings over five outings, and Jacobs stretched his scoreless innings streak to 10 innings over four outings.
The Ducks scored three runs in the third inning after Tyresse Turner was hit by a pitch and Cooper Ingle and Kahlil Watson drew back-to-back walks to load the bases. Dayan Frias brought home Turner with a sacrifice fly, a wild pitch scored Ingle and Watson scored two batters later when Cameron Barstad reached on a fielder’s choice.
June 4: RubberDucks fall in 10 innings to Baysox
Enrique Bradfield Jr. hit a two-run home run in the 10th inning to lift the Chesapeake Baysox to a 4-2 win over the RubberDucks at Canal Park.
Ducks starter Carter Spivey did not allow a hit until there two outs in the fourth. He finished with a season-best five strikeouts while allowing one run in six innings. Zane Morehouse followed with two scoreless innings before Shawn Rapp allowed a run in the ninth and Ross Carver (1-2) surrendered Bradfield’s blast in the 10th.
The RubberDucks took a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Jorge Burgos led off with a double, Jake Fox drew a walk and Guy Lipscomb singled home Burgos. Alex Mooney then followed with a sacrifice fly to score Fox.
June 1: Somerset Patriots win series finale 3-1, but RubberDucks win series 4-2
Somerset catcher Rafael Flores hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning, and Akron was held scoreless until the ninth inning as the Patriots won the series finale 3-1 over the RubberDucks in Bridgewater, New Jersey.
The RubberDucks won four of the six games during the week.
Flores hit his Eastern League-leading 11th home run to left field in the fourth inning off Ducks starter Rodney Boone (3-2), giving the Patriots a 3-0 lead. Before that swing, the league’s total base leader had been just 9-for-45 with two doubles and one RBI against Akron pitching in 11 games this season.
Right-hander Jake Miller took over for Boone and extended his scoreless streak to 7⅔ inning over a four games. Right-hander Tyler Thornton struck out three batters while walking two in two scoreless innings for the Ducks.
May 31: 3-run home runs and game-ending triple play win it for Akron
Kahlil Watson and Cameron Barstad each hit a three-run home run and the RubberDucks beat the host Somerset Patriots 10-5. The Ducks capped its victory with a game-ending triple play, their first since April 12, 2016, at Altoona. It was the first game-ending triple play in the Eastern League since May 23, 2013.
With the Ducks leading 6-3 entering the ninth inning, Alex Mooney hit a RBI single and Barstad followed with his first home run of the season — a three-run shot to straightaway center field — to make it 10-3.
Ducks starter Trent Denholm worked around solo homers leading off the second and fifth innings, and yielded an unearned run in the fourth inning. He struck out top Yankees prospect George Lombard Jr. three times among four total strikeouts and earned his first win as a starter this season, second against Somerset and sixth overall — tied for the Eastern League lead.
Zach Jacobs relieved and pitched three scoreless innings for a third consecutive outing, allowing only one hit and one walk with four strikeouts. Right-hander Zane Morehouse allowed a ninth-inning leadoff homer to the Patriots Garrett Martin — his second of the night — and then two walks and two hits to load the bases with no outs. Morehouse then caught a line drive off the bat of Max Burt, threw to Barstad for a forceout at home, and after Barstad threw to first baseman Jorge Burgos for a second out, Burgos threw back home to Barstad, who tagged out Cole Gabrielson trying to score, completing the game-ending triple play.
Watson’s 410-foot home run came in the fourth inning and scored Barstad and Cooper Ingle to put Akron up 5-1. Frias, Guy Lipscomb and Barstad each had two-hit games.
May 30: Duck come back to win 8-7 in New Jersey
RubberDucks designated hitter Kahlil Watson, shortstop Dayan Frías and left fielder Joe Lampe each had multi-hit games, while Akron scored seven two-out runs and escaped a bases-loaded-no-out jam in the ninth inning for an 8-7 win over the host Somerset Patriots in the fourth game of a six-game series at TD Bank Ballpark Friday night.
After the Patriots erased Akron’s 4-0 lead with two runs each in the third and fourth innings, the RubberDucks responded in the top of the fifth inning against right-hander Mason Vinyard. Frías hit a one-out single to left field and went to second base on a groundout. He stole third base, Jake Fox walked and stole second base, and Guy Lipscomb grounded a two-out, two-run single to center field for a 6-4 RubberDucks lead. Watson has seven hits and four RBIs in the series.
Davis Sharpe (3-3) picked up the Akron win in relief of starter Austin Peterson. Magnus Ellerts got save No. 3 despite walking two and hitting a third to open the ninth inning. Ellerts struck out the next three Patriots to seal the win.
May 29: Somerset Patriots hit 4 home runs to sink RubberDucks
Former University of Akron standout JT Brubaker held the RubberDucks to one hit in four innings of a major league rehab start, and Somerset hit four home runs, including two by Tyler Hardman, in a 12-0 Patriots victory over Akron in the third game of a six-game series at TD Bank Ballpark Thursday night.
With Somerset leading 1-0 in the second inning, Ducks right-hander Carter Spivey hit left fielder Brennen Davis with a pitch and walked first baseman Dylan Jasso before Hardman drilled his first home run to left field, extending the lead to 4-0. Somerset scored in each of the first five innings to build a 9-0 lead.
Spivey allowed seven earned runs in 3⅔ innings, followed by Ducks relievers Shawn Rapp (two runs in 2⅓ innings) and Steven Pérez (two innings, two runs).
Hardman finished with six RBIs.
Cooper Ingle’s leadoff single in fourth inning was the Ducks’ only hit off Brubaker. Akron was shut out for the second time in eight games with Somerset and sixth time overall this season.
May 28: RubberDucks pitching shuts down Somerset Patriots
Five RubberDucks pitchers combined on a five-hitter with 14 strikeouts in a 1-0 shutout of the Somerset Patriots. It was Akron’s fourth shutout in eight games with Somerset and eighth overall this season, tying Erie for the Eastern League lead.
Ducks starter Tommy Mace struck out six, walked four and hit a batter in four scoreless innings. Jake Miller followed with two scoreless innings before Tyler Thornton, Zane Morehouse and Magnus Ellerts each pitched a scoreless inning, with Ellerts working a perfect ninth for his first save since April 6.
Ducks pitchers were adept at working out of trouble, stranding the tying run in scoring position every inning from the fourth through the eighth. Somerset left 10 runners on base overall.
RubberDucks center fielder Jake Fox had two hits, including an RBI single in the fourth inning for the game’s lone run. Fox’s hit scored Dayan Frías, who singled and later stole third.
The RubberDucks (32-15) continue their series at Somerset (22-24) at 6:35 p.m. May 29. Akron right-hander Carter Spivey (2-0, 3.06 ERA) is scheduled to start against former University of Akron pitcher and current Yankees right-hander JT Brubaker, who is with the Patriots on a major league rehab assignment.
May 27: Ducks open weeklong series in New Jersey with 6-1 win
The Akron RubberDucks opened a six-game series with the Somerset Patriots with a 6-1 win Tuesday night. Kahlil Watson hit two doubles and finished 4-for-5 with three RBIs to key the Ducks’ 12-hit attack.
Cooper Ingle added a single and a double from his leadoff spot in the lineup.
Starting pitcher Rodney Boone (3-1) gave up the lone Somerset run (unearned) on four hits and a walk with three strikeouts in five innings. Zach Jacobs and Davis Sharpe closed out the final four innings, allowing one Patriots hit and no runs.
May 25: Ducks and Curve split a doubleheader
The Altoona Curve salvaged one game in the six-game series in Akron this week, taking the first game of Sunday’s doubleheader 1-0. The RubberDucks came back in the nightcap to post a 5-4 win at Canal Park.
The Ducks scored three runs in the third inning and two in the fifth and then withstood a two-run seventh inning by the Curve to hold on for the win in Sunday’s second game. Jorge Burgos drove in four runs on a pair of hits for the Ducks in the second game.
Magnus Ellerts (2-0) earned the win in relief and Zane Morehouse picked up save No. 5 with his unsteady work in the seventh inning. Morehouse allowed two runs on three hits, but he struck out two to save the victory for Akron. Ellerts replaced starter Ross Carter in the third inning. Steven Perez and Jake Miller earned hold opportunities before Morehouse took over in the seventh.
In the first game, three Curve pitchers kept Akron off the bases, combining for a one-hit shutout. Akron did not get its first hit until Cooper Ingle led off the bottom of the sixth inning with double. It was Ingle’s 16th double of the season.
Altoona scored its lone run in the sixth off of reliever Shawn Rapp (0-3). Rapp came on in the sixth to replace Trenton Denholm who went five innings of shutout pitching. Denholm gave up three hits, one walk and struck out seven.
Akron travels to Harrisburg to being a six-game series on Tuesday.
May 24: RubberDucks pound Altoona Curve 10-0
Austin Peterson tossed seven shutout innings and the RubberDucks beat the Altoona Curve 10-0 at Canal Park for their fourth consecutive win.
The Ducks sealed the victory with seven runs in the eighth inning.
The Curve got two hits in the first inning and another in the third off Peterson (3-2), who struck out four, before he settled in to retire the final 13 batters he faced. Davis Sharpe pitched two scoreless innings to complete the shutout and earn his third save.
The game was scoreless until the fourth inning, when Guy Lipscomb worked a two-out walk and came around to score on a double by Jake Fox. Alex Mooney followed with a single into center to plate Fox for a 2-0 lead.
Fox opened the seventh inning with another double, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by Michael Turconi. In the eighth, Joe Lampe hit a two-out solo home run, Turconi drew a bases-loaded walk and Cooper Ingle hit a two-run single to make it 7-0. Jorge Burgos then drew a bases-loaded walk before Dayan Frias’ two-run single capped the seven-run inning.
Nine of the Ducks’ 10 runs came with two outs.
May 23: Joe Lampe helps RubberDucks sweep doubleheader from Altoona Curve
Joe Lampe had five hits and scored five runs to help the RubberDucks sweep a doubleheader with the Altoona Curve at Canal Park, winning 6-3 and 5-0.
In the opener, the Ducks quickly answered the Curve’s two second-inning runs by scoring three times. Lampe doubled and Alex Mooney and Michael Turconi drew back-to-back walks to load the bases. After Cooper Ingle lined a two-run double to give the Ducks a 3-2 lead, Turconi scored on a groundout by David Fry, who is in Akron on a rehab assignment from the Guardians.
Jake Miller (3-0) came on in relief of starter Tommy Mace in the second inning and picked up the victory. Four Ducks held the Curve (20-22) to just three hits.
In the second game, Dayan Frias singled to open the second inning and advanced to third on a single by Lampe. After Lampe stole second base, Guy Lipscomb and Mooney hit sacrifice flies to give the Ducks a 2-0 lead.

It started when Cooper Ingle hit a solo home run in the fifth inning to give the Ducks a 1-0 lead. It was Ingle’s fifth homer this year.
Holding that one-run lead in the seventh, the RubberDucks looked to add on. Alex Mooney beat out an infield single and advanced to second on an error to open the inning. Guy Lipscomb followed with a single into left to score Mooney and make it 2-0. Two batters later, Lipscomb scored from third on a foul popout by Fry into the first base dugout to make it 3-0.
Rodney Boone struck seven and only allowed two hits in six scoreless innings. Boone (2-1) struck out seven in each of his home starts against Altoona this season. Four Ducks pitchers closed out the win, and Zane Morehouse picked up his fourth save by striking out the only batter he faced in the ninth inning to get out of a bases-loaded jam.
May 18: RubberDucks lose game but win series with Baysox
The Chesapeake Baysox scored nine runs in the fifth and sixth innings en route to a 10-1 victory over the RubberDucks in the series finale Sunday in Bowie, Maryland.
Despite the loss, the Ducks won the series 4-2.
The Ducks had just one hit off Baysox starter Braxton Bragg through the first five innings, and the Baysox turned three double plays in the game. They avoided the shutout in the ninth inning when Dayan Frías was hit by a pitch and scored on a two-out triple by Jake Fox.
The 10 runs tied for the most runs allowed by the Ducks in a game this season.
May 17: Ducks take down Baysox
The visiting RubberDucks (25-13) scored six runs in the first two innings and held on to beat the Bowie Baysox 9-4.
Jorge Burgos extended the Ducks’ lead to 8-2 in the sixth inning with his eighth home run of the season, a solo shot.
Aaron Davenport (3-0) allowed three runs on five hits with five strikeouts and no walks in six innings. Zane Morehouse pitched the last two innings to earn his third save.
May 14: RubberDucks sweep doubleheader in Maryland
Jorge Burgos drove in six runs, including four in a 7-5 comeback win in Game 1 and a two-run home run in a 6-1 win in Game 2, to lead the visiting RubberDucks to a doubleheader sweep of the Chesapeake Baysox.
After falling behind 5-1 in the opener, the Ducks (23-12) drew three straight walks to begin a three-run fifth inning keyed by Burgos’ two-run single. With Akron still trailing 5-4 in the sixth, Jake Fox and Travis Bazzana drew consecutive walks, Cooper Ingle sacrificed them into scoring position and Burgos hit a go-ahead, two-run single to center field for a 6-5 lead.
Burgos then stole second base and scored on a single by third baseman Dayan Frías to make it 7-5. Frías had earlier hit his third home run of the season to tie the score in the fourth.
RubberDucks left-hander Rodney Boone allowed two solo home runs as the Baysox built a 5-1 lead before the Ducks rallied. Boone worked a perfect fifth inning between the Ducks’ consecutive three-run innings, and Zane Morehouse and Jake Miller finished the victory.
In the second game, after Bazzana — who extended his on-base streak to 11 games — drew a walk, Burgos hit his team-high seventh home run to open the scoring in a four-run first inning. Guy Lipscomb then hit a two-out RBI double, and an error allowed a second run to score on the play.
Fox added his third home run of the season leading off the second inning.
In relief of starter Rorik Maltrud, Davis Sharpe (2-3) struck out four batters and allowed just one hit in three scoreless innings for the win. After Shawn Rapp pitched a scoreless inning, Carter Spivey allowed one run over the final two innings.
May 13: RubberDucks-Baysox game bounced due to weather
Inclement weather postponed Tuesday’s series opener between the RubberDucks and Chesapeake Baysox at Prince George’s Stadium in Bowie, Maryland. The game will be made up in a doubleheader of seven-inning games at 11:05 a.m. Wednesday.
May 11: RubberDucks win series with a 1-run victory over Patriots
Cooper Ingle’s two-run home run in the eighth inning broke a scoreless tie and lifted the RubberDucks to the 2-1 win over the Somerset Patriots at Canal Park.
Cameron Barstad singled with one out in the eighth and, after a flyout, Ingle lined a two-out home run into Modelo Tiki Terrace to make it 2-0.
The Ducks won a home series for the 27th time since 2021. Dating back to the second half of last season, the Ducks have won nine of 10 home series.
Aaron Davenport allowed just two singles (one in the first and in the third) and a third-inning walk on his way to six shutout innings with seven strikeouts. Trenton Denholm (5-0) was sharp out of the bullpen, allowing a run on two hits while striking out four in three innings.
The Ducks were held without a hit until the sixth, when Barstad singled to break up the no-hit bid. Dayan Frias drew two walks and stole a base — his third consecutive game with a walk and stolen base.
May 10: Patriots shut out RubberDucks 5-0
The Somerset Patriots limited the RubberDucks to just three hits in a 5-0 victory at Canal Park.
The Patriots scored a run in the first inning and two more in the fourth. Ducks starter Austin Peterson settled in that, striking out six over six innings while allowing the three runs (two earned). Jake Miller then struck out two while allowing two unearned runs over two innings, and Zach Jacobs tossed a scoreless inning.
Travis Bazzana extended his hitting streak to eight games with a single in the third inning. Kyle Dernedde doubled in the sixth and Jorge Burgos singled in the sixth for the Ducks’ only other hits.
May 7: Rorik Maltrud, 3 relievers combine on shutout for RubberDucks
Right-hander Rorik Maltrud struck out nine and did not allow a hit until the fifth inning Wednesday in the RubberDucks’ second consecutive 3-0 win over the Somerset Patriots at Canal Park.
Maltrud (2-1) allowed just two hits over 5⅓ innings. Three relievers then held the Patriots scoreless the rest of the way, extending the Ducks’ scoreless innings pitched to 18.
As they did Tuesday, the Ducks jumped out in front in the first inning when Travis Bazzana led off with a hustle double before scoring on Cooper Ingle’s single to make it 1-0.
The Ducks added some insurance in the eighth inning when Ingle drew a lead-off walk and came around to score on a triple by Kahlil Watson. Jorge Burgos then brought home Watson with a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0.
May 6: Ducks open homestand with win over Somerset Patriots
Jorge Burgos hit his sixth home run of the season and Aaron Davenport struck out 10 as the Akron RubberDucks shut out the Somerset Patriots 3-0 Tuesday at Canal Park. Burgos hit a two-run home run to straightaway center field that scored Travis Bazzana to put Akron up 2-0 in the first inning.
Davenport (2-0) pitched six scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out 10 on just 64 pitches. Trenton Denholm earned his first save, allowing one hit and striking out four in three scoreless innings.
The Ducks added an insurance run in the fifth inning when Tyresse Turner singled, stole second, moved to third on an error and scored on Bazzana’s infield single. Burgos doubled in the sixth, giving him the only two extra base hits in the game.
May 4: Curve gets walk-off single in ninth to sink RubberDucks
Mitch Jebb lined a two-out single into left field to score Sammy Siani from third and give the Curve a 3-2 victory over the RubberDucks in the finale of a six-game series Sunday in Altoona, Pa.
The Curve’s Wyatt Hendrie hit a two-run home run off Ducks starter Austin Peterson in the second, but the right-hander settled in and allowed no other runs on five hits with four strikeouts in 5⅔ innings. Ross Carver, the fourth Ducks pitcher, got two outs in the ninth before allowing Jebb’s game-winner.
Travis Bazzana got the Ducks on the board in the sixth inning when he singled, stole second and came around to score when Jorge Burgos singled a single up the middle. In the ninth, Alex Mooney doubled to left and scored on Joe Lampe’s single to tie the score 2-2.
The Ducks open a series Tuesday against the Somerset Patriots at Canal Park.
May 3: Travis Bazzana hits home run as RubberDucks return to winning ways
The RubberDucks broke a scoreless tie with four runs in the sixth inning Saturday en route to a 5-3 win over the Curve in Altoona, Pennsylvania. Travis Bazzana’s third home run of the season, a solo shot in the ninth, accounted for the Ducks’ other run.
Jorge Burgos put the Ducks (17-9) on the board with a single up the middle to score Cooper Ingle, and Kahlil Watson scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0. Alex Mooney then singled to score Burgos and came around to score the fourth run of the inning on a single by Justin Boyd.
Tommy Mace (4-2) earned the win and Davis Sharpe pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his first save of the year.
May 2: Altoona Curve snaps RubberDucks’ 2-game winning streak
The RubberDucks took a 1-0 lead two batters into the game, but the Curve rallied with three runs in the third inning and coasted to a 6-2 win in Altoona.
Travis Bazzana led off the game with a double and scored on the first of two doubles by John Ingle to give the Ducks (16-9) a quick 1-0 lead. Starter Rodney Boone kept Altoona scoreless through the first two innings, but the Curve broke through with three runs in the third and another run in the fourth to take a 4-1 lead.
Boone (1-1) allowed four runs on five hits and a walk with two strikeouts in 4⅔ innings.
The Ducks got a run back in the sixth when Tyresse Turner drew a bases-loaded walk, but Bazanna was called out on strikes to end the threat. The Curve then scored twice in the home half of the sixth for the game’s final runs.
May 1: Rorik Maltrud pitches Ducks to win over Curve
Rorik Maltrud pitched six strong innings and the RubberDucks erased a 1-0 deficit with four runs in the sixth inning to beat the Curve 4-2 in Altoona.
Maltrud (1-1) allowed one run on three hits with a four strikeouts and a walk for the Ducks (16-8). Zach Jacobs gave up a run in two innings and Jake Miller pitched a perfect ninth for his first save.
Kahlil Watson went 3-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored, and Joe Lampe had a two-run double to key the Ducks’ sixth-inning rally.
April 30: Ducks respond with shutout win led by Aaron Davenport
Three RubberDucks pitchers limited the Curve to three hits in a 6-0 win in the second game of a six-game series in Altoona.
Starter Aaron Davenport (1-0) picked up the win and Cooper Ingle, Kahlil Watson and Tyresse Turner each had two hits for the Ducks, who pounded out 11 hits off five Curve pitchers. Watson came up big with his second home run of the season, a two-run shot in the third inning. Akron also scored solo runs in the second, fourth, sixth and ninth innings.
The Ducks stole nine bases, including five by Alex Mooney.
April 29: Curve open six-game series with lopsided win over RubberDucks

leading off the game with a home run, the host Altoona Curve rolled to a 10-2 win, scoring eight runs in the middle innings to win the series opener on a rainy night.
Akron led 2-1 into the fourth before Altoona tied it. The Curve then scored four runs apiece in the fifth and sixth to break open the game. Sammy Siani’s three-run triple in the sixth was the big hit for Altoona, making it a 9-2.
RubberDucks starter Austin Peterson struck out one in a scoreless first inning before his start was cut short by a rain delay of nearly an hour. Jake Miller pitched two scoreless innings coming out of the delay before Shawn Rapp, Magnus Ellerts and Alonzo Richardson combined to give up 10 runs. Making his Akron debut, Richardson allowed two runs while striking out five in three innings.
Bazzana’s leadoff home run came on the seventh pitch of the game. It was Akron’s first leadoff home run since Cooper Ingle on Aug. 21, 2024, against Harrisburg. The RubberDucks increased their lead to 2-0 in the second when Justin Boyd singled to left before a misplay by the Altoona left fielder allowed Alex Mooney to score.
April 27: RubberDucks win slugfest over Richmond
The RubberDucks pounded out 14 hits and outslugged the Richmond Flying Squirrels 16-7 at Canal Park. Guy Lipscomb had a game-high five RBIs for the Ducks, who won five games in the six-game series.
After Richmond closed to within 4-3 in the third, the Ducks scored three runs in the fourth on Jake Fox’s two-run single and Kahlil Watson’s bases-loaded walk to make it 7-3. Lipscomb, Cooper Ingle, Watson, Jorge Burgos and Joe Lampe then each drove in runs the Ducks’ six-run fifth.
Lipscomb got the scoring started with a two-run double to key a four-run second inning. Fox followed with a sacrifice fly before Travis Bazzana capped the inning with an RBI single to center.
After the Flying Squirrels scored four runs in the sixth, the Ducks answered in the seventh with Lampe hitting an RBI single before Lipscomb capped his big day with a two-run single to make it 16-7.
Zach Jacobs, on in relief of starter Tommy Mace, allowed four runs in two-thirds of an inning. Ross Carver earned his first save with 3⅓ innings of scoreless relief.
Akron travels to Altoona, Pa., to begin a six-game series with the Curve on Tuesday.
April 26: Ducks and Squirrels split doubleheader
Akron’s Jorge Burgos walk-off double in extra innings of the second seven-inning game against the Richmond Flying Squirrels lifted the RubberDucks to a 2-1 win to split a doubleheader. Richmond won the first game 4-1.
After the Flying Squirrels took a 1-0 lead in the top of the ninth, the Ducks loaded the bases when CJ Kayfus was hit by a pitch and Burgos followed with a line drive off the wall in left field to score Tyresse Turner and Travis Bazzana to give Akron the victory.
Jake Miller (2-0), who allowed the unearned run in the top of the ninth, earned the win as Akron’s fourth reliever of the second game. Starter Rorik Maltrud and relievers Magnus Ellerts and Zan Morehouse kept the Squirrels (5-15) off the scoreboard until Miller entered in the ninth.
In the first game, Akron (13-7) could only muster one run on Dayan Frias’ RBI single up the middle in the third. That run stood up until the Squirrels got to the Ducks bullpen for four runs in the sixth inning.
April 25: RubberDucks game with Flying Squirrels postponed
The game between the Akron RubberDucks and Richmond Flying Squirrels Friday, April 25, at Canal Park was postponed by rain. It will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Saturday, April 26, with the first game set to start at 5:05 p.m.
April 20: SeaWolves RubberDucks drop late lead to Erie, losing 5-1
The Erie SeaWolves scored four runs in the seventh inning to come from behind and beat the RubberDucks on Easter in the series finale in Erie. Erie put a crooked number on the scoreboard with the four runs on four hits and an error to take a 4-1 lead enroute to a 5-1 win.
RubberDucks starter Rodney Boone struck out three and allowed just one hit over five scoreless innings. Boone has now allowed just one run over 12 innings with 18 strikeouts in three starts this season. Davis Sharpe came on in relief and tossed an inning and a third allowing three unearned runs. Zach Jacobs finished with 1-2/3 innings allowing in a pair of runs. Sharpe was tagged with the loss and Jacobs blew his second save.
Akron took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning when Tyresse Turner walked, moved to second on a steal and then scored on Cooper Ingle’s single.
Kahlil Watson’s triple in the second inning was the RubberDucks’ 13th triple of the season. CJ Kayfus also joined the extra-base hit club on Sunday, with a double to extend his hitting streak to 13 games, tying Francisco Mejia (2017) and Asdrubal Cabrera (2007) for the the longest hitting streak by an Akron player to start a season since 2005.
Akron comes home to face the Richmond Flying Squirrels Tuesday to begin a six-game series at 6:35 p.m.
April 19: Erie SeaWolves use big fifth inning to beat Ducks; CJ Kayfus extends hit streak
The SeaWolves scored six runs in the fifth inning to beat the RubberDucks 6-2. Nine Erie batters came to the plate with four collecting hits in the six-run inning to give it a 6-1 lead a half inning after Akron scored the game’s first run.
RubberDucks starter Rorik Maltrud allowed just one hit through the first four innings before the SeaWolves got the right-hander in the fifth. In total, Maltrud worked 4.2 innings allowing five runs while striking out one.
The RubberDucks got the lead in the top of the fifth when Yordys Valdes lifted a sac fly to the wall in right to score Tyresse Turner. Guy Lipscomb provided Akron’s other run in on a solo home run in the ninth, his first homer of the season and Akron’s sixth of the series. Akron’s CJ Kayfus extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a fourth-inning single.
April 18: 4 home runs power RubberDucks a 9-6 win in Erie
Cooper Ingle and Kahlil Watson hit back-to-back home runs and each had three RBIs as the RubberDucks beat the SeaWolves 9-6 in Erie.
After the SeaWolves took a 5-4 lead in the sixth inning, the Ducks answered in the seventh. A single by Jake Fox sandwiched between walks by Cameron Barstad and Travis Bazzana loaded the bases with no outs. Ingle worked a walk to tie the score, and Watson followed with a line-drive single to center to score two and make it 7-5.
The Ducks got off to a hot start in the first inning when Bazzana singled to lead off and Ingle launched a two-run home run to left-center. Watson followed with a solo homer to right-center to make it 3-0.
The Ducks power surge continued in the third when Jorge Burgoshit a solo shot to deep right. Fox then added some insurance in the eighth inning with a two-run homer to dead center to make it 9-5.
Ducks starter Aaron Davenport allowed just one baserunner through his first three innings. Erie got to him for two runs in the fourth and fifth innings to end his night at five innings pitched with four strikeouts and four earned runs allowed.
Trenton Denholm (3-0) then came on and pitched the rest of the game. The right-hander worked four innings, allowing two runs (one earned) while striking out three.
April 17: RubberDucks use 5-run third inning to beat SeaWolves
The RubberDucks scored five runs in the third inning to break a scoreless innings streak en route to a 6-3 win over the SeaWolves on April 17 in Erie, Pa.
Travis Bazzana singled to score Alex Mooney for the first run. Two batters later, CJ Kayfus lined a bases-loaded triple down the right-field line in right to make it 4-0, and Kayfus then scored on a wild pitch later to cap the inning.
The Ducks added another run in the ninth when Tyresse Turner doubled with two outs and scored when Bazzana singled for his second RBI of the night.
RubberDucks starter Austin Peterson allowed two runs on three hits while striking out four over five innings to pick up his first victory of the season. After Ross Carver pitched two scoreless innings, Magnus Ellerts allowed a run over an 1⅔ innings while striking out five.
Carter Spivey earned his first save when an Erie baserunner attempted to score from second on a wild pitch.
April 16: RubberDucks shut out in second consecutive loss
CJ Kayfus reached base three times, but the Erie SeaWolves shut out the Akron RubberDucks 4-0 on a chilly Wednesday afternoon in Erie. The Wolves scored a run in each of the first three innings to hand the Ducks their second consecutive loss.
RubberDucks starter Tommy Mace rebounded from the early runs to keep the SeaWolves off the board the rest of his afternoon. In total, the right-hander allowed three runs and struck out two over 5⅓ innings. Jake Miller allowed a run and struck out two over 1⅔ innings, and Zane Morehouse tossed a scoreless eighth.
The RubberDucks threatened to answer Erie’s early runs in the fifth inning. Joe Lampe opened the inning with a single and Alex Mooney followed with a double into the gap in right, but Erie executed a perfect relay throw to get Lampe at the plate to keep it 3-0.
April 15: RubberDucks squander big first inning in loss to SeaWolves
The RubberDucks could not hold on after a six-run first inning, falling to the Erie SeaWolves 8-7 Tuesday in Pennsylvania. The SeaWolves jumped on the Ducks bullpen with two outs in the fourth, when they used six hits and two Akron errors to plate eight runs and take the lead.
RubberDucks starter Rodney Boone ran into a bases-loaded jam in the second but got back-to-back strikeouts and a groundout to escape unharmed. In total, Boone tossed 3⅔ scoreless innings, allowing three hits while striking out eight. Shawn Rapp allowed eight runs (six earned) in the fourth. Zach Jacobs added three strikeouts in 2⅓ scoreless innings, and Davis Sharpe pitched two perfect innings.
The RubberDucks’ first-inning scoring started when Jorge Burgos lifted a bases-loaded sacrifice fly to plate Cooper Ingle. After Joe Lampe walked to reloaded the bases, Alex Mooney singled home CJ Kayfus and Kahlil Watson. Dayan Frias capped the outburst with a three-run home run to make it 6-0.
April 13: Ducks take series with Sunday’s 13-1 victory
Alex Mooney, Dayan Frias and CJ Kayfus each had three hits in the RubberDucks’ 13-1 win over Altoona in the six-game series finale on Sunday afternoon.
Akron jumped out to an early lead when Joe Lampe lined a single back up the middle in the bottom of the first to score Travis Bazzana. In the third inning, the RubberDucks struck for more as Frias lifted a three-run home run to right field to make it 4-0.
The Ducks pounded out 16 hits in the game and added four runs in the fifth, keyed by a triple by Mooney that scored Lampe and Frias. The Ducks tacked on two more runs in the sixth and closed out their scoring with a three-run eighth inning, when Bazzana drove in Mooney and Cameron Barstad with his third triple of the series.
RubberDucks starter Rorik Maltrud was sharp in his second Akron start. The right-hander worked around three base runners in the first two innings by striking out six Curve batters. He pitched three innings, allowing one run while striking out six. Magnus Ellerts followed with two scoreless innings with six strikeouts. Ross Carver (two innings), Carter Spivey (one inning) and Allan Hernandez (one inning) each had scoreless outing to help finish off the Ducks victory.
Akron travels to Erie to begin a six-game series on Tuesday, April 15. The Ducks are back at Canal Park on April 22.
April 12: RubberDucks rally to avoid third consecutive loss
Triples by CJ Kayfus and Travis Bazzana helped lift the RubberDucks to a 4-2 win over the Altoona Curve on Saturday at Canal Park.
After Altoona tied the score 1-1 in the sixth inning, the Ducks responded in the bottom half when Bazzana tripled to right field and scored on a single by Cooper Ingle.
Kayfus scored the Ducks’ first run in the fourth inning when he tripled to extend his hitting streak to seven games and came home on a sacrifice fly by Jorge Burgos.
After retaking the lead in the sixth inning, the Ducks added two insurance runs in the seventh. After Burgos and Dayan Frias walked to start the inning, Guy Lipscomb moved them up with a sacrifice bunt and Alex Mooney was intentionally walked to load the bases. Cameron Barstad then picked up a RBI by being hit by a pitch and Bazzana walked to make it 4-1.
Ducks starter Aaron Davenport allowed just one single and struck out five over five scoreless innings. Trenton Denholm (2-0) followed with four innings of relief and picked up the win.
April 11: Altoona Curve use six-run eighth to win second straight vs. RubberDucks
Despite a strong start by Akron’s Austin Peterson, the Altoona Curve won their second straight vs. the RubberDucks, winning 8-1 in front of a crowd of 1,980 at Canal Park.
Peterson struck out four over five scoreless. In his second start of the season, the right-hander scattered three hits.
The Curve then scored all eight of their runs against the Akron bullpen. Leading 2-1 heading into the eighth, Altoona sent 11 men to the plate and scored six times in the inning.
Jorge Burgos drove in Akron’s only run, lining a two-out double into the gap to score Tyresse Turner in the third to give the Ducks a 1-0 lead. Burgos has 11 RBIs in six games this season in six games.
Akron’s Kyle Dernedde picked up his first professional multi-hit game.
The RubberDucks return to action against the Curve at 6:05 p.m. Saturday, April 12 at Canal Park.
April 10: RubberDucks drop first game of the season
It took six games for the RubberDucks to taste defeat, but it happened Thursday with a 2-0 loss to visiting Altoona. Four Curve pitchers held Akron to just three hits, four walks and no runs to win game No. 3 of the six-game series. Valentin Linarez picked up the win in relief for Altoona.
The Curve had just two hits off four Akron pitchers. Starter Tommy Mace (1-1) suffered the loss for the Ducks, giving up a run on no hits and five walks.
The series continues at 7:05 p.m. Friday.
April 9: Akron RubberDucks blast Altoona Curve
C.J. Krayfus went 4-for-5 with a home run, a double, three RBIs and three runs scored and the RubberDucks stayed perfect Wednesday with a 13-1 rout of the Altoona Curve in the second game of a six-game series at Canal Park.
The Ducks (5-0) snapped a 1-1 tie with four runs in the bottom of the second inning, then added one run in the third, five runs in the fourth and capped the scoring with two runs in the fifth.
Cooper Ingle (home run, double, three runs), Guy Lipscomb (double, three walks, two runs), Jake Fox and Tyresse Turner (double, two RBIs) added two hits apiece for the Ducks, who outhit the Curve 15-8. Travis Bazzana and Joe Lampe each contributed a triple.
Rodney Boone started and worked the first 3⅓ innings for the Ducks, allowing one run on four hits and two walks with seven strikeouts. Jake Miller (1-0) relieved and earned the win, allowing one hit and striking out three in 1⅔ innings.
The teams will meet again at 6:35 p.m. Thursday.
April 8: Akron RubberDucks rally to win home opener at Canal Park
The
RubberDucks
scored two runs in the seventh and eighth innings of their home opener to rally and
beat the Altoona Curve 6-5 on Tuesday
to improve to 4-0 this season.
Jorge Burgos hit his fourth home run in as many games for Akron. He also had a two-hit game along with teammate Davan Frias.
Zane Morehouse pitched a scoreless ninth for the
Southwest Division
champion Ducks to close things out. Davis Sharpe pitched a scoreless inning to earn the win, striking out two and allowing no hits or walks.
April 6: Akron RubberDucks complete 3-game sweep of host Richmond Flying Squirrels
Akron left fielder Jorge Burgos hit a two-out, go-ahead, three-run home run in the seventh inning to propel the RubberDucks to a 5-4 win over the host Richmond Flying Squirrels at The Diamond on Sunday afternoon.
Burgos hit a home run in all three games of the season-opening series sweep, and the RubberDucks overcame a 4-0 deficit Sunday before a crowd of 5,715.
Trailing 4-0 through five innings, Akron scored two runs in the sixth inning, including first baseman C.J. Kayfus scoring on a triple by Burgos. In the seventh against right-hander Nick Garcia, center fielder Jake Fox drew a leadoff walk and catcher Cooper Ingle hit a one-out double tor right field, putting the tying runs in scoring position. After Garcia struck out Kayfus, right-hander Tyler Myrick entered. Burgos was assessed an automatic strike for a pitch timer violation, but on Myrick’s first delivery, Burgos drilled a home run over the center-field wall, giving Akron its first lead of the day, 5-4.
RubberDucks right-hander Aaron Davenport pitched two scoreless innings, but in the third allowed a one-out walk and a two-out, two-run home run to third baseman Sabin Ceballos for a 2-0 Richmond lead. After a double by second baseman Diego Velasquez, catcher Adrian Sugastey hit an RBI single to make it 3-0, ending Davenport’s start after 2⅔ innings.
Right-hander Jake Miller entered and pitched 1⅓ scoreless innings in his Double-A debut. Right-hander Trenton Denholm started the fifth inning, allowing a leadoff double to designated hitter Jairo Pomares, who scored on another RBI single by Sugastey. Denholm then pitched three scoreless innings and right-hander Magnus Ellerts pitched a perfect ninth inning for the save in his season debut.
Richmond left-hander Jack Choate struck out nine in the first 3⅔ innings. In the sixth, Kayfus hit a leadoff single against right-hander Cameron Cotter, and Burgos laced an RBI triple down the first-base line. Right fielder Joe Lampewalked, and third baseman Alex Mooney hit a sacrifice fly that was dropped in right field, scoring Burgos to make it 4-2.
Burgos drove in nine runs in the three-game series. Travis Bazzana, the designated hitter Sunday, had seven hits in his first Double-A series. Kayfus contributed six hits in the series. Burgos, Kayfus, Bazzana, and Dayan Frías hit safely in all three games.

Akron took the lead in the first inning for the second straight game. Bazzana led off with a single to left field off right-hander Manuel Mercedes. Designated hitter C.J. Kayfus hit a triple past center fielder Carter Howell, scoring Bazzana. With one out, Burgos homered to right field to give Akron a 3-0 lead.
Ducks right-hander Austin Peterson struck out all three batters in the first inning and yielded only a bunt single in four scoreless innings. Right-hander Ross Carver worked around two walks with three strikeouts in two scoreless innings. Right-hander Davis Sharpe started the seventh inning and allowed three hits and Richmond’s first two runs. He walked two in the eighth, before right-hander Allan Hernandez walked two more, forcing home a run before he retired the side. Hernandez pitched a scoreless ninth inning to end the game.
The Ducks added to their lead in the second inning when left fielder Tyresse Turnerreached on a fielder’s choice and Bazzana hit a two-out, two-run home run to left-center field to make it 5-0. In the third, third baseman Dayan Frías hit a leadoff double and scored on catcher Cameron Barstad’s RBI single to right field, his first Double-A hit.
Bazzana and Kayfus hit back-to-back two-out doubles in the sixth to add a run for a 7-0 lead. In the ninth, Bazzana hit a leadoff single and scored — his first four-run game as a professional — after an errant pickoff attempt, a wild pitch and a groundout to make it 8-3.
Bazzana has six hits in his first two Double-A games, reaching base in eight of 10 plate appearances, and came within a triple of the first cycle by a RubberDuck since Bryson Myles did it Aug. 25, 2025, against Trenton. Burgos leads the team with five RBIs in two games and Kayfus has four.
April 4: Akron RubberDucks open season with win over host Richmond Flying Squirrels
Akron right-hander Tommy Mace pitched five innings of one-run ball, second baseman Travis Bazzana and first baseman C.J. Kayfus each had two hits, and designated hitter Jorge Burgos hit a two-run home run in a 7-4 season-opening victory over the host Richmond Flying Squirrels at The Diamond on Friday night before a crowd of 9,810.
Bazzana, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft by the Guardians, stole two bases in a game for the first time professionally.
Akron took a 2-0 lead in the first inning against left-hander John Michael Bertrand. Ducks catcher Cooper Inglesingled to left field with one out, left fielder Joe Lampe walked and third baseman Dayan Frías drove in both with a double to left field.
Mace scattered four hits and four walks with four strikeouts in five innings. Right-hander Zach Jacobs was perfect with three strikeouts in a two-inning Double-A debut. Left-hander Shawn Rapp hit a batter and allowed two hits, leading to three runs — two earned — in one inning. Right-hander Zane Morehous walked the first batter of the ninth inning before retiring the next three for the save.
In the fourth inning, Burgos was hit by a Bertrand pitch, and right fielder Guy Lipscomb reached on a fielder’s choice. Right-hander Evan Gates walked shortstop Alex Mooney, and Bazzana chopped a single to a center field for his first Double-A hit and RBI. In the fifth, Frías drew a two-out walk ahead of a Burgos home run. In the sixth, center fielder Jake Fox walked, Bazzana singled, Ingle walked and Kayfus hit a two-run single to center field to make it 7-1.
Akron’s first five runs were scored on two-out hits. The RubberDucks won their Opening Night game for the first time since 2021 and did so on the road for the first time since 2016. The seven runs were Akron’s most in an opener since scoring seven in 2017. Burgos’ homer was Akron’s first in a season opener since Oscar González hit a game-winning walk-off home run on Opening Night at Canal Park in 2021.
