Asia’s Most Beautiful Island Sets Travel Ban for Nyepi Day

Bali, which was recently named Asia’s most beautiful island, will pause all travel activities for one day on March 29th to mark Nyepi Day when the island observes silence.

Also referred to as the Balinese Day of Silence, Nyepi stands as the holiest celebration for Balinese Hindus, during which all inhabitants and guests, irrespective of religious beliefs, must observe this custom.

The Balinese calendar marks Nyepi on Saturday, March 29 this year. Over those 24 hours, the entire island will shut down completely; all lighting, sounds, and music will be banned, transport services will cease operations, and residents are required to stay inside their homes throughout the day.

Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali will temporarily cease operations from 6 a.m. on March 29 until 6 a.m. on March 30. During this time, passengers transiting through the airport will need to remain within the terminal building.

Bali was crowned Asia’s most beautiful island at this year’s annual event.
