
Heritage Destination #5: Socotra — An Endemic Wonderland
Situated in the northwestern part of the Indian Ocean close to the Gulf of Aden, the Socotra archipelago spans more than 250 kilometers. This group includes four main islands along with two rugged islets that appear to elongate the Horn of Africa.
There are 1,223 locations listed under UNESCO’s World Heritage List. These can be stunning natural landscapes, rich cultural landmarks, or areas with both characteristics — all remarkable places worth visiting. Join us as we explore some lesser-known gems around Earth today. Our focus will be on the Socotra Archipelago, an oceanic treasure trove of endemic species in the Indian Ocean.

Socotra
The archipelago stands out due to its extensive variety of flora as well as its rapid species development.
