Kano Clashes: NSCDC Responds to Extortion Allegations at Dansoshiya Grazing Reserve

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kano State has dismissed reports spreading through the media claiming that their staff members at the Dansoshiya grazing reserve are demanding payments from farmers.

The Command characterized the assertions as untrue, baseless, and an intentional effort to undermine its reputation.

As stated by SC Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, theNSCDC confirmed that none of its personnel has ever requested or accepted payment or incentives from farmers under the pretense of penalties or charges for cultivating their land.

“Alternatively, it might engage the public to learn that certain people in the region attempted, at various times, to offer bribes so they could clear land for agriculture; however, our agents refused and rejected these offers,” the statement pointed out.

Following this, certain dissatisfied individuals within their ranks have pledged to tarnish our reputation—a course of action they’ve initiated but which won’t yield any positive outcomes for them.

The organization reaffirmed its dedication to defending and securing the 3,000-hectare Dansoshiya grazing area against intrusion, emphasizing that all unapproved actions within this territory continue to be unlawful and subject to legal penalties.

“The State High Court has issued an order prohibiting encroachments into the grazing reserve, and the Corps has been instructed to enforce complete adherence,” the statement further stated.

The Command expressed worry about intelligence reports suggesting that certain troublemakers were planning to create disorder around Dansoshiya over the weekend.

The warning advised the supposed organizers to cease their activities, emphasizing that it would not accept any violation of public tranquility.

As they guaranteed the protection of compliant farmers during the upcoming rainy season, the NSCDC restated their commitment to maintaining security throughout the agricultural regions within the state.

As part of the Kano State Agro-Pastoral Development Project (KSADP), the Dansoshiya pastoral area project is being carried out through a partnership between MCI Nigeria Limited and the Islamic Development Bank.
