Minister Cuts Sod for New GHIS Center of Excellence in Roadway Innovations

The Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwame Agbodza, has initiated the construction of the Ghana Institution of Surveyors’ (GhIS) Centre of Excellence in Accra by performing the traditional sod-cutting ceremony.

This occasion marks a crucial step towards achieving GIS’s enduring objective of creating an exceptional center aimed at fostering professional growth, conducting research, and offering consulting services.

During his speech, Mr. Agbodza praised the Ghana Institution of Surveyors for their ongoing dedication to improving cost efficiency in government-funded construction initiatives.

He highlighted the significance of the GhIS in aiding government efforts, particularly the ‘Big Push’ initiative, via expert recommendations, project reviews, and technical expertise.

The minister further emphasized the government’s commitment to finishing halted projects and tackling critical infrastructure requirements throughout the nation.

The Center of Excellence is designed to be a multifaceted center that will include facilities for alternate dispute resolution (ADR), cost-effectiveness evaluations, project audits, and data handling.

This will offer a cooperative space where experts from the construction sector along with those in academic circles can participate in exchanging ideas, enhancing skills, and fostering new innovations.

President GhIS Kofi Obeng-Ayirebi emphasized the crucial role that the Center of Excellence will have in advancing excellence and professionalism within the fields of surveying and construction.

He reaffirmed his organization’s dedication to significantly supporting national progress via strengthening capabilities and advocating for policies.

The event saw the presence of important participants like delegates from the Ministry of Finance, judicial members, and counterparts from various professional organizations such as the Ghana Institute of Architects, Ghana Institute of Planners, and Ghana Institution of Engineers.

Their attendance highlighted widespread support for the Centre of Excellence’s mission and goals.

Emmanuel Kwesi Bedzra, who serves as both the board chairman of GETFUND and a trained surveyor, also attended the event.

The construction activities for the GhIS Centre of Excellence are anticipated to begin intensively very soon.
