NEA Extends Deadline for Industries to File Administrative Appeals Until Jestha: International Edition (English)

On May 9, Nepal — The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has prolonged the submission period for industrial entities utilizing power via dedicated and trunk lines but have not paid their tariffs to lodge an administrative review.

The NEA has encouraged businesses that haven’t settled their electricity bills to submit an administrative appeal, giving them a cutoff date at the conclusion of Jestha (around mid-June).

The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has stated that those who consumed power via specific feeders and mainlines between Magh 2072 and Baisakh 2075 (from mid-January 2016 to mid-May 2018), and still owe money for their electricity bills, may file an administrative review by the deadline set at the end of Jestha 2082 (around mid-June 2025).

As per the NEA’s notification, following the decision made by its Board of Directors on May 3, 2024, customers have the option to submit their appeals under Clause (1) of Regulation 55 within the Electricity Distribution Regulations 2078. This can be done by paying either 5% of the total tariff amount or providing an equivalent ‘A’ class bank guarantee valid for one year.

The NEA’s board meeting held on April 11 urged industrialists to submit administrative appeals. Nonetheless, these industrialists have been declining to comply, claiming that the charges levied by the NEA are both unacceptable and unwarranted.
