
NZ Kicks Off Trade Talks With India
Wellington [New Zealand], May 9 (ANI): New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon underscored India’s significance for Wellington’s growth, stability, and community. He stressed the economic prospects offered by India and declared the commencement of trade talks between the two nations, seeking mutual economic enhancement.
During his address at the India New Zealand Business Council (INZBC) event on Friday, Luxon stated, “India holds significant importance for New Zealand’s prosperity, security, and societal well-being. Additionally, India presents substantial economic opportunities for people from New Zealand as well.”
He said this week they initiated trade talks with India aiming to boost their economic growth.
The aim is to generate employment opportunities, boost salaries, and assist with cost-of-living initiatives. ‘By doing so, we will not only create jobs but also elevate wage levels and provide individuals with additional funds in their wallets – my primary objective is to aid you concerning your daily expenses,’ Luxon stated further adding how insightful it was reflecting upon these matters along with his recent trip to India during the India-New Zealand Business Council’s summit earlier today.
Previously, Pabitra Margherita, who serves as the Union Minister of State for External Affairs, reached out to Luxon during the margins of the India-New Zealand Business Council (INZBC) event.
Both leaders delved into methods for advancing their collaboration and enhancing mutual relations across multiple industries.
In a post made on X, Margherita said, “Delighted to meet Rt Hon @chrisluxonmp, Prime Minister of New Zealand, during the margins of the INZBC event. We discussed avenues for advancing the collaboration between India and New Zealand to bolster our bilateral relationship in multiple areas.”
Margherita also spoke at the INZBC Summit 2025 along with Luxon and New Zealand’s Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters in Auckland. He noted that the summit’s theme was ‘From Boardroom to Border: Leadership Dialogue.’
On Thursday, Pabitra Margherita had a meeting with New Zealand’s Trade and Agriculture Minister Todd McLachlan. They explored methods to enhance the trade relationship between their respective countries.
Pabitra Margherita landed in Auckland on Thursday for a two-day trip to New Zealand. After arriving in Auckland, Margherita expressed enthusiasm about meeting with New Zealand’s high-ranking officials. (ANI)
